And then it was on to the east coast for a few days in Georgia with Laura's grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and cousins which was really fun. On arriving into Birmingham (pronounced Bir-ming-ham, as opposed to the English city, Birming'm), Alabama we were met by Grandpa and Grandma, and then on the way out of the airport got our first taste of the southern accent. The ticket attendent greeted us and then said "It's reading yourrr teee-aaaacket". I'll never forget the first time in my life I heard the word "ticket" pronounced with three syllables.

In Georgia we ate yummy food, courtesy grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, including Uncle Philippe who is French and a chef for Air France. We even had our first wedding anniversary in Georgia with Grandma cooking and a lovely cake!

We got to visit Mount Kennesaw, site of one of the biggest battles in the American civil war, and some of the 1996 Olympic venues in downtown (daantaan) Atlanta. On the Sunday we went to a very good, very American church with about 2,000 people! So that was quite a cultural experience!

After 4 action packed days we flew back to Oregon for another week with Laura's family, before returning to home sweet home last week. Sorry for those of you wanting to know more about the work we're doing... I promise the next post will be about work and not American holiday (vacation)!
